First Annual CCCTC Career Day

The first annual Career Day at the Coosa County Career Tech Center (CCCTC) kicked off CTE Month February 1st. The Coosa County Schools Career Coach Keslie Garrett organized a fantastic group of presenters from a variety of career fields to share their careers with our CCCTC students. Presenters included: Lin Slater, Head Basketball Coach at Huffman High School and Central Alumni who also had a fan club attend to hear her speak, Lin's mom who is a former Central High School teacher and her step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Laman. Students also heard from Wildlife Biologist, Landon Johnson; Statisticians for Alabama Department of Labor, Gerald Nix and Hallory Tucker; Author, Entrepreneur, and Coach, Dantavius Washington; Game Warden, Justin Knight; Alabama Technology In Motion Trainer, Angie Clark; Coosa Valley Medical Center's Brittany Culberson and Heather Mediene; Realtor and Broker from Front Porch Realty Sylacauga,Rebecca Bolton; Land Surveyor and Central alumni, Jimmy Mitchell; Coosa River Keeper's Community Engagement Coordinator, Quinn Herring; Central Alabama Work Education Manager, Ashley Johnson; and Environmental Health Inspector, Bridgette Key.
Each of the presenters brought unique stories about the path they took to fulfill their career goals and encouraged the students to try new things, dream big, and take advantage of the opportunities they are offered in order to gain experiences and learn what they are passionate about. Surveys collected from the students about the event included responses such as: "I wish they could have stayed longer.", "I found the presentations interesting even though that was not one of my career choices." , and "I'm glad I had the opportunity to learn about other careers.".
Special thanks to FBLA for providing donuts for our presenters and to all of the presenters who came out to support Career and Technical Education in Coosa County Schools and our students.
Career Day was a great way to start February which is Career Tech Education Month. Follow us on facebook @centralcoosacareetechcenter and @coosacentralcareercoach to find out more about what is to come, to thank Mrs. Garrett for a job well done, and setting the bar so high for the upcoming events.
